Need Some Tips for Summer Plumbing?

The arrival of summer is exciting, but it’s also the time of the year to make sure your plumbing, sewer and drain systems are working properly to avoid potential problems. Here are some DIY tips to get your home’s plumbing in shape for summer:

  • The summer heat means more outdoor activities. More outdoor activities mean more dirty clothes. Be sure to check your washing machine hoses for bulges, leaks or cracks and be sure to remove dryer lint regularly. Make sure to move your machine at least four inches from the wall to prevent hose kinking and damage. Washing machine hoses should be replaced approximately every three years.
  • Be careful what goes down your kitchen garbage disposal after your weekend cookout. Most are not equipped to handle corn husks, celery, banana peels and other fibrous foods. Also keep from disposing of fats or cooking oils because they form clots in the pipes. Run cold water at full pressure for 15 seconds before and after you put anything down the disposal to flush it through.
  • Save money and energy on your vacation by turning down the temperature of your water heater while you are away.
  • Sewer line backups are common this time of year due to summer rainwater entering sewer pipes via cracks. Tree roots can also cause sewer backup issues as roots are drawn toward the sewer line as a source of nutrition. Give us a call to inspect your sewer lines, and we will let you know if you are susceptible to a sewer line backup problem or if damage has already occurred. In either situation, we will help you determine the best treatment option for proper drain cleaning

Quality work with people who really care. I have been planning on finishing my basement and it is a multi-year project due to funding. This year we decided to move the water heater and Travco provide a good quote and when they showed up the tech was GREAT. While he was here he didn't just concentrate on the job he asked me about my design of the basement and provided his input on the best way to do it. He also cared about how things looked and always consulted me. He even moved my reverse osmosis for better accessibility and improved routing of the hot water heater vent. When I finally get to the bathroom rough in for my basement and the new sewage ejector pit there will be only one company I am calling.
